"Design Moves" Reading Response

In the reading, “Design Moves” by Sharon Helmer Poggenpohl, Poggenpohl talks about how people view and interact with design. She says that to better understand design it is important to see the way people react towards design. If you incorporate and engage the user in the design process, it helps to find a solution. Additionally, it helps with making abstract ideas come together.

This reading also talks about prototypes and how there are four basic types. The first is the conceptual prototype. This prototype is abstract and often used to convey ideas to a team. The next kind of prototype is the behavioral prototype. This prototype might actually differ from the actual object being designed. Often this prototype is designed in order to answer a certain question. Procedural prototypes are also very abstract and more diagrammatic. The last type of prototype used in the design process is the appearance prototype. This design is focused more on the physical look of the object.

This reading helped me with this project because it showed how many different ways you can use prototypes to help develop a product. It also helped with demonstrating the importance of user testing to better increase your product or to help with finding a better solution.
