“Interaction Design" Reading Response

In the reading, “Interaction Design Sketchbook”, by Bill Verplank, Verplank talks about interaction design. Interaction design is design for human use.

Interaction designers focus on three questions.
1) How do you do?
2) How do you feel?
3) How do you know?
In the “how do you feel?” section, Verplank talks about how what we feel about the world is based on our senses. The way people portray things is such an important aspect of design. As a designer it’s important to always keep in mind how you want your audience to feel. Designers have many choices when it comes to this, they can design with clarity, suggestiveness, design with a metaphor in mind, the options are endless.

This article helped with our project because we did not know how to design our “directory” for the art and design building. Since we were in the A&D building we wanted something that was a little more aesthetically appealing to the eye, like a piece of art work. We changed our concept around a few times until we came up with our final design. We felt our final concept left the viewer feeling like the piece on the wall was noticeable and helpful but did not distract from the artwork across the hall from it.
