In the TED talk by Tim Brown, he talks a lot about how it is not always as important how an object looks. He talks about how the world of design used to be a lot bigger. Essentially, Brown mentions a good point and that is that design almost always starts with human need and want. Designers are problem solvers. As a designer you should understand peoples needs and their backgrounds.
This relates to our project because wayfinding is used to help solve a problem. We had to figure out a problem and effectively design a way to solve it. But we had to understand the situation, environment and people associated with the problem before we could design the solution to it.
